| Dr Robertson's formal mining exposure commenced in 1982 when he joined A.S. Robertson, Mining Investment Consultants and undertook the computerization of a suite of fundamental economic investment models of the South African Gold Mines. He also participated in meetings with senior executives of major international banks and stock brokers with portfolio's containing South African Gold Shares gaining an in-depth understanding of global economics. |

| This mining experience was greatly extended when in 1985 he joined Steffen, Robertson and Kirsten Consulting Civil and Mining Engineers and was soon involved in a number of major projects relating to both open cast and underground mining. |

| Practical Mine Design Experience |

| Projects included ore body modeling and feasibility studies for a new mine, slope design for various major open cast pits in Central Africa and development of innovative techniques for Dragline operating hazard management. |

| Reliability Based Design |
|

| This experience included exposure to the Reliability based design techniques of Professor Milton Harr of Purdue University and thence to concepts such as probability of failure. |

| Mine Design Optimization Challenges |

| The conflicting requirements of high levels of human and equipment safety on the mines versus the economic requirements for minimum overhead introduce a level of optimization in design which is particularly demanding. |

| In the same way, the cost of investigating massive ore reserves and overburden deposits versus the tight economic parameters of mining operation present enormous challenges. |
