| In 1985 Dr Robertson received the "Anglo Alpha Award for the Promotion of Concrete", a South African National award adjudicated across all research published on concrete and related cement bound materials in the previous year. This included research undertaken at all major South African Universities and other research institutes. |

| This award entailed a six week study tour to the United States, Canada, Switzerland and the United Kingdom to visit research institutes and construction sites relating to the use of Cement Stabilized materials in the construction of large dams, which was the subject of Dr Robertson's doctoral thesis. The ward covered all expenses for four weeks of the tour including international travel. |
